Everything you need to know about exports: SMEs in Mikolayiv learn vital skills from expert training


Businesses and exporters in the Mikolayiv area of Ukraine took part in a comprehensive training on ‘Export practices and procedures for new exporters’ organised on 2-3 October by the Business Support Centre of Mykolayiv with the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the EU4Business initiative.

For the first time in Mykolayiv, business representatives had the opportunity to work with Jonathan Ian Walden, the chief adviser on customs clearance and trade facilitation for the international company Crown Agents (UK), a consultant to trade giants such as Adidas, Xerox, Motorola, SITPRO, BP Chemicals, Wogen Resources, Corus Steel, Molton Brown, General Dynamics and many others.

Participants of the training had an opportunity to consider the full cycle of export business and the sequence of international transactions, to disassemble the roles of the multilateral agencies regulating world trade - WTO, ICC, etc., to find out where to get market information and data, consider the role of regulatory authorities, compliance with international standards, export licences, security of supply, risks and responsibility, and many other vital issues for Ukrainian entrepreneurs to successfully export to international markets.

The Mikolayiv Business Support Centre is part of the EU-funded Network of Business Support Centres, which aims to improve the competitiveness and bankability of Ukrainian SMEs through the provision of business advice and capacity building. It also supports BSOs in 15 regions of Ukraine in setting up a network of EU4Business Business Support Centres (BSCs). At least 30,000 SMEs and entrepreneurs will benefit from the project.
